📍Another playful dog in the home
📍willingness to take him to any needed or recommended ophthalmology appointments in the future

If you submitted an application for Archie before this point, please let us know you have now read his bio and would still like to be considered for him.

Archie is a happy 13 week old mini Aussie pup who is currently only 11 pounds. Our human emotions make us feel bad for him because of his blindness but he doesn’t know the difference and greets you with a wigglebutt (actually he ends up in a U-shape, lol) every time. Archie is mostly blind besides the ability to see shadows in one eye, and will likely be fully blind in the near future. The retina is completely detached on one eye and 75% on the other, which is expected to completely detach. He is at a higher risk for glaucoma than the average dog and will need rechecks on the pressures in his eyes in 5 months and from there at a frequency determined by the specialist.

With that in mind, I have to say how much this little guy amazes me. Our home isn’t the easiest to navigate with steps up and down and a bit of a trek to the backyard, but this guy figured it out in no time flat! He knows when to run and when to slow down and be cautious, but of course will occasionally run into things. When he does, he will just shake his head and keep on trucking!

He loves other dogs and is SUPER playful with two of the dogs in our home, so he will do best in a home with another playful dog in it to wrestle with and learn from. They will end up being the best of friends in no time. We also have a cat and he is completely fine with her too. He also LOVES all people. Everyone that meets him just melts; partially from his cute fluffiness and then his sweet personality.

Being 12 weeks old, he is very much a puppy in the chewing phase, so anyone that adopts him needs to be willing to continue teaching him the difference between what he can and cannot chew. He loves his chew and squeaky toys and is easily redirected to them. He is doing very well on house training, but does still need to be taken out frequently and kept on a schedule. He crates himself at night in exchange for a yummy treat and can often even be found taking a quick nap in his crate during the day by his own choice.

This boy is such a joy to be around. He is the perfect combination of a dog that wants to curl up next to you and then have some independence. When he is in the yard, he might be playing with one of the dogs or just enjoying the fresh air on his own.

Archie is being fostered in HOUSTON TX and is available for adoption in Texas only. Archie microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and on monthly Heartworm preventative.
