Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

BENJI
Stats: 1 year old, male
Location: Dallas, TX
Intake: 06/2025
Adoption Fee: $275
Social: #Benji516
Benji is a medium energy, super sweet, 1.5 year old, 45 lb. standard Aussie. He loves wrestling with his foster siblings, going for walks, meeting new people, and snuggling on the couch.
He learns commands pretty easily. He has already mastered several commands such as sit, stay, come, leave it, and heel. While he is not a huge fetch dog, he does love to chase a soccer ball and will bring it back a few times.
Benji was found as a stray and taken to the shelter. He arrived with his fur shaved down to the skin with flea dermatitis. Unfortunately, he sat in the shelter for 3 months with no interest and was saved just hours before his scheduled euthanasia. His coat has grown out some but still has a long way to go. He also still needs to gain a few pounds.
Benji is very playful. He thinks every dog he meets wants to be best friends and could wrestle for hours. When there’s no one to wrestle with, he will cuddle up with his people. His go to move is to smash his face into yours and just collapse on you — he is an expert level cuddler! The ideal home for Benji will have a friendly playmate or frequent play dates with other dogs and owners who will take him out and about. He is mostly okay off leash but could use more training before going anywhere busy.
Benji is amazing out in public and on leash. He has zero reactivity even when other dogs bark at him and is great about ignoring everything in general. While he is obsessed with meeting new people, he will still respond to commands in busy places. He does tend to jump up on new people and wants to give everyone hugs. He will need continued consistent training to support in polite greetings with humans.
Benji has been living with cats in the home and does okay. He will chase, but if the cat swats at him, he respects it. If he is with a cat that won’t react back, he tends to want to wrestle with them like another dog and can be too rough.
Benji is crate trained, but can be trusted with free rein of the house for short periods of time.
Benji is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention.
Benji is being fostered in Dallas and will require the adopter to travel to meet him within 7 days of approval. His adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application online. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us saying you are interested in Benji.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
