Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

COWBOY
Stats: 5 years old, male
Location: Dallas, TX
Intake: 11/27/2024
Adoption Fee: $275
Social: #Cowboy502
Requirements:
-
Confident/outgoing dog in the home
-
No cats
Cowboy is a 6 year old standard Aussie who weighs 60 lbs, but still has some weighg to lose. He is a low energy Aussie who is looking for a social owner to enjoy life with! He’s a very affectionate and gentle boy who always wants to be near his person. He lived his whole life never leaving a property, so he is still getting used to going out and about. Cowboy gets more comfortable with each outing. He can take a minute to warm up to new people, but once he decides you are okay then he will demand all the pets. He gets along with all dogs and would benefit from a confident, outgoing, and friendly dog in the home to look up to.
An ideal day for Cowboy would be to go for a long walk where he can explore a bit and then hangout on the couch with his people. He absolutely loves his walks and always gets so excited running back and forth to the door beforehand. He is not sure about toys or fetch, but likes to chase other dogs while they fetch — so he is still part of the fun! He will occasionally wrestle with other dogs, but he mostly prefers to be with his people. While he has done well with the cats in his foster home, he did not get along with the cat in a previous adopters home when unsupervised.
Cowboy is housebroken and crate trained, but can be trusted out in the home. He walks very well on leash, responds quickly to his commands, is pretty good off leash, and rides well in the car. While he really enjoys off leash walks and hiking, he will chase a bird or rabbit. He is well behaved and nonreactive on leash in public. While it might make him uncomfortable at first, he would benefit from an adopter who will take him out in public and have people over frequently. He does take a minute to warm up to strangers and will give a couple woofs when they come into his home, but he is all bark — no bite. He has made a ton of improvements in this aspect, and will continue to improve the more he is socialized. He does follow the lead from his foster siblings and would benefit from another dog to learn from. Previously, he has done well with young children in the home, but might not be ideal for a home that has kids’ friends coming in and out.
Cowboy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, Heartworm negative and on monthly Heartworm prevention.
Cowboy is being fostered in the Dallas area and will require the adopter to travel to him. His adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us saying you are interested in Cowboy.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
