Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

JOY
Stats: 3 years old, female
Location: Dallas, TX
Intake: 09/03/2023
Adoption Fee: $275
To borrow from what the shelter said when they had her, because it’s perfectly accurate, “True to her namesake, she is happy all the time. She spreads joy and would love to put a light in your world!” Joy is a medium energy, 3-year-old, 57 lb. standard Aussie who is one of the biggest lovers you’ll meet. She lives to be with her person and make them happy and is the always ready to go with you on any outing!
She literally loves everyone. If she thinks a person might give her attention, she’s on it. She enjoys her walks and visits to all the dog-friendly public places, and makes friends and fans anywhere she goes. She’s only had limited exposure with us to older (10-12 years) kids, but she loves them just the same and rocked the kids’ sporting events.
She’s good with other dogs and dog-savvy cats. She does have a tendency to try and hoard all the attention for herself by being front and center, so she needs someone to remind her she has to share attention if there’s another dog in the home. She would be content as an only dog as well.
Did I mention she’s velcro? Like, don’t think you’re going to another room without her velcro. Cuddling is her thing – she loves her time next to you on the couch watching tv and she sleeps snuggled up to you in bed. She can be a talker when encouraged and is lower-key playful. She knows her basic commands and has excellent recall and response to what you want in general.
She’s housebroken and crate trained (sometimes she actually enjoys going to lie down in her crate on her own), but is trustworthy left alone uncrated in the house, as long as socks are not in her reach. She’s currently on weight management food as she was overweight when joining us. She has dropped some of that weight, but is still on her weight loss plan to reach an ideal BCS goal weight of 50 lbs. Her forever family must be committed to helping her achieve and maintain this goal.
Joy is up to date on all core vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and current on heartworm and flea prevention. She is being fostered in Dallas and is available to adopt in Texas and some areas of Oklahoma only. If chosen, you must be able to travel to Dallas within 7 days of application approval. If you have an application on file with us already and would like to be considered for Joy, please email or message us!
