Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.
FOSTER PROGRAM
MAISIE
Stats: 5 years old, female
Location: Dallas, TX
Intake: August 2025
Adoption Fee: $275
Social: #Maisie528
Maisie is a lower energy, super sweet, 5-year-old, 42 lb. standard Aussie. She is the epitome of a Velcro dog and absolutely loves doing anything and everything with people – going for a ride, a walk or hike, playing in the backyard, or snuggling on the couch. Maisie would make an exceptional therapy dog with her calm, gentle disposition, good manners, and love of all people. If you allow it, she is more than happy to gently jump up and give you hugs.
While she is not a huge fetch dog (yet!), she does love to chase the other dogs while they play. She occasionally plays with stuffed toys and likes a good bone or safe chewy toy. She has a penchant for gathering anything and everything into her bed – clothes, shoes, towels – laundry day is her favorite! She generally doesn’t chew anything, just gathers it up in her spot.
Maisie also came to us as part of a breeder retirement and lived her whole life in an outdoor pen. When you meet her, you will never know it as she has adapted to life inside beautifully and takes advantage of all her new privileges. She’s good about holding it to potty when let outside and will hilariously sit staring straight at the door when she needs to go out. She’s trustworthy left uncrated at home but does seem to prefer the company of another dog in the home.
After getting to know another dog, Maisie will play with them a little bit – she especially likes the low-key mouthing type of play but will get more into wrestling as she gets more comfortable. She is a lower-energy girl but gets excited when her dog siblings and friends run and will happily go on longer walks or hikes as she builds up her endurance. She has been living with cats in the home and tends to ignore them. The ideal home for Maisie will have a friendly dog who doesn’t mind having a shadow and who is comfortable sharing their owners’ attention, and owners who will continue to take her out and about meeting all the new people she can.
Maisie is amazing out in public and on leash. She has zero reactivity even when other dogs bark at her and is great about ignoring everything in general. Cuddling is her absolute favorite thing! She’s a great snuggler! She will gladly snuggle up in your arms overnight or until she gets hot and jumps down off the bed — it’s the sweetest thing. She could easily be trained to be a registered therapy dog to continue spreading love on an even larger scale more regularly!
Maisie is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention. She is being fostered in Dallas and will require the adopter to travel to meet her within 7 days of approval. She is available for adoption in Texas and parts of Oklahoma. Her adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application online. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us saying you are interested in Maisie.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
