Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.
FOSTER PROGRAM
MAX
Stats: 3 year old, male
Location: Houston, TX
Intake 05/27/24
Adoption Fee: $275
Max is a 3-year-old, 40 lb., lower-medium energy Aussie (maybe Border Collie mix) who is as happy-go-lucky and easygoing as they come. Max came to LSAR when he was spotted roaming a neighborhood in Houston and was mistaken for one of our foster/alumni family's dogs. It was evident early on he had spent a lot of time outside and wasn’t well cared for. Additionally, he was heartworm positive. We’re happy to report that Max has now completed his Heartworm treatment, his matted hair has grown out into a handsome coat, and he’s ready to find his forever home.
Max has never met a stranger—dog or human. He greets everyone with a wagging tail and a polite hello. Even amongst the chaos of his foster brothers, Max is the epitome of calm and friendliness. He loves his walks and is great on a leash, although he frequently likes to stop and smell the roses. He’s a perfect little patio companion, just watching the happenings while hanging out at your feet and enjoying the pets. Or if you’re lucky enough to enjoy pool time, he’s quite content cooling his underside on a tanning ledge!
Dinner time is Max’s absolute favorite—he’ll jump on his hind legs and wag his fluffy tail in anticipation. Max is also quite the toy enthusiast, often entertaining himself by tossing his toys in the air. He adores getting pets and will happily oblige if offered a belly rub.
Max is a master howler when the need arises, serenading sirens like a true wolf. However, he rarely barks, even when his foster brothers are riled up about passersby. He is fully housebroken and trustworthy to be left alone uncrated. Max enjoys car rides and gets wiggly with excitement. He’s great with kids and would do well in a home with or without other dogs.
Max is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all core vaccines, and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He is being fostered in Houston and is available to adopt in Texas and some areas of Oklahoma only. If chosen, you must be able to travel to Houston within 7 days of application approval. If you have an application on file with us already and would like to be considered for Max, please email or contact us!
