Nike is a 5-year old, 65 lb, medium energy, standard Aussie. He is a sweet, well-mannered boy that is crazy about his people. He is a velcro dog in the truest sense and is never more than a few steps away. He would love a home where he can spend a lot of time with his people and go on the afternoon walks or hikes he likes so much.

While Nike prefers the affection of his family, he is gentle and friendly when meeting strangers on outings or greeting visitors in the home. He has great manners when visiting dog friendly places. When doing so, he is very dog neutral and does not show much interest in other dogs. He is much more interested in his people! He does occasionally play with his foster sibling.

Nike enjoys curling up next to his people on the couch and asking for pets. He often dives headfirst into the cushions and does a somersault before landing in the perfect position to get plenty of belly rubs. If he snuggles in for pets and doesn't get any he will put a paw on your arm and give you one of his many silly faces until you cave to the cuteness.

He has great leash manners and enjoys taking walks, especially on trails. He waits patiently for you to clip his leash to his collar but may whine to tell you to hurry up. He can be a little overexcited when first leaving the house but settles right into a loose leash walk within minutes. He also enjoys car rides and will jump right in on command; he will also wait for a release command before jumping out of the car at your destination.

Nike gets very attached to his chosen people. This can result in some separation anxiety. This has improved greatly in his foster home with the right management strategies but will require some work and patience as he settles into a new home and routine. Nike’s anxiety does not result in destructive behaviors, but he does bark and howl.

He has proven to be a great work from home buddy and will quietly nap under a work desk until it’s time for an afternoon walk. He knows the basics of ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘shake’, and has a good recall. He is working on ‘stay’ but this one is tough as he likes to be right next to his people.

Nike is not crate trained, but is trustworthy left alone in the house. He is fully housetrained. He would do best in a home without cats as he can be a little too interested in the cat in his foster home.

Nike is up to date on all vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and is current on Heartworm and flea prevention. He is being fostered in San Antonio and is available for adoption in Texas and some areas of Oklahoma only. If chosen for adoption, you must be able to travel to San Antonio within 7 days of application approval.
