Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

NONA
Stats: 14 years old, female
Location: TX
Intake: 4/15/2025
Adoption Fee: TBD
Social: #Nona513
Sweet senior girl Nona is an honorary Aussie. As a breed specific rescue, we focus primarily on Aussies and sadly, there's no shortage of them in need all the time . But occasionally, another dog speaks to us and we have to help them. That's the case with Nona. She reminded us too much of one of our beloved personal dogs who has since passed and we just had to help her. Nona came into the shelter as a stray and they aged her at 12. We think she's probably more like 14+. This sweet old girl was someone's dog, but it's clear she wasn't cared for . She's way too thin, feeling every vertebrae in her spine and every rib, she's heavy Heartworm positive, has bad Spondylosis that affects her getting around, a unirnary tract infection, and her teeth are atrocious, what's left of them (most are worn down to nubs).
All that plus being at a shelter that is overfull, like so many, she wound up on the Euth list, but she had an army advocating for her! I can't even keep track of how many different volunteers I saw who shared pictures and videos of her in posts pleading for someone to give her a chance. Word about her need for rescue from the shelter spread quickly and that's where we saw her and knew we had to help. We are thankful for everyone who has honored their pledges to support Nona as we continue providing her with the best care. We've gotten her started on all the things for senior dogs and look forward to seeing her rebound a bit. We know she may not have much time left, but we're committed to making however much time she has be the best she remembers.
So far she's been settling into her foster home, learning the routine, and letting the resident dogs know they shouldn't bump into old ladies . But really, she's just a kind, gentle old soul who really needed a soft place to land. We've got you girl.
Welcome to LSAR Nona.
This sweet girl got her freedom ride because a foster was able to open their home for her to have a soft place to land.
