Pecos is a spunky 1 year old, 35 pound boy looking for his forever family. He loves to run, play and chase his foster brother and enjoys getting down and dirty in the mud! When not playing with others, he is able to entertain himself by chewing on bones, or playing with stuffed/squeaky toys. He is currently learning the concept of fetch. So far he always chases the ball, but often forgets to bring it back.
He did display some resource guarding of food and toys with other dogs when he entered foster care, but has improved greatly as he’s settled in and worked with his foster family on sharing nicely. Adopters with other dogs in the home should be willing to work through these behaviors if they occur again in a new home.
While he isn’t necessarily a lap dog, he loves attention, pets, and hugs and will smother you in kisses whenever he gets the chance. He soaks up all the attention he can get from the many teenagers in his foster home, but hasn’t been tested with small children while with us.
He is well mannered when meeting new people and will sit nicely and wait for pets and love.
He is, however, sometimes fearful of new situations/places/sounds and will tell you by panting/drooling, or backing away and trying to hide. It took him a couple days to venture up the stairs and several more days to venture into the different rooms of his foster home, but he has settled in perfectly now. He would benefit from continued socialization and exposure to new places , people, and things to build confidence.
He does have some separation anxiety and will pace and chew when left alone, but is crate trained and will run in on command, especially at meal time!
Pecos is being fostered in the DFW area and is available for adoption in Texas only. He is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly Heartworm preventative. He is both house and crate trained.
