Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

SOPHIE

Sophie is a low to medium energy, calm, but youthful 10-year-old, 45 lb. blue-merle standard Aussie. She is an easy-going teddy bear who attracts attention everywhere we go. She loves her daily walks and going out anywhere and everywhere. She routinely gets compliments on how well-behaved she is in public.
She enjoys being in the room with people but does not need to follow your every move. She loves her head to be rubbed and easily tolerates hugs. She is house-trained and has no issues being left alone. She always gives an enthusiastic greeting when we return home.
Sophie greets all new people or dogs in a friendly manner. She plays well with other dogs and enjoyed playing with another dog during a weekend stay with an LSAR alumni. She used to live with other dogs and would most likely enjoy a home with another friendly dog in the house again but has done well solo too. If she is the only dog in her forever home, regular playdates are a requirement. She used to live with cats also and was said to do well with them.
Sophie enjoys her walks which are full of sniffing time. She sits on command and walks well on a leash. She rides well in the car and enjoys going everywhere with us. Multiple trips to the airport to pick up friends and family, weekend trips out of town, or lunch at an outdoor restaurant, she’s ready! She tolerates the water but is not interested in swimming.
Sophie’s previously damaged coat is now full and gorgeous! She is patient with brushing and grooming, including baths. She gets playful after a bathroom break outside and a good meal. She enjoys playing tug with her toys and literally pounces on them. She has the best time jumping on the bed, pushing off the pillows, and rolling in the covers! She has short bouts of energy and playfulness, and then is ready to settle down for a nap. She does have a strong herding instinct, so she requires a home with no kids and on the quieter side. She is a joy to have in our home and will make an excellent companion for a lucky family.
Sophie is up to date on all core vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and current on heartworm and flea prevention. She is being fostered in Austin and is available to adopt in Texas and some areas of Oklahoma only. If chosen, you must be able to travel to Austin within 7 days of application approval.
