Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

Tucker is a 2.5-year-old lovable, high-energy 35 lb. mini-Aussie. Tucker’s favorite thing is getting love and attention from his humans - or any new humans he happens to meet while out and about! When he’s not cozying up to someone for extra back scratches, Tucker can usually be found playing with a toy, chomping down on some chew toys, or coaxing his foster brother to wrestle with him. This little pup has an active mind and an even more active body and always wants to keep busy! He’s looking for the perfect ACTIVE home to keep him busy and happy!
He has shown potential in agility and would love to explore that more as he’s whip smart and agile as you’d expect. He’s also a huge fan of fetch – balls, frisbee, toys, you name it! As a young high-energy boy, if he’s not kept adequately stimulated, he attempts to find stimulation on his own, usually in the form of mischief. He’s been known to counter-surf and chew on the edges of dog beds when not given appropriate toys or bones to chew.
Now, if you’ve ever watched and loved those videos of sassy huskies chatting away to their owners, then Tucker may be a great fit for you! He can be a talkative boy and always keeps his foster parents laughing. He’ll watch along to the Great British Bake Off and critique any too-hyper-realistic cakes that make him think a real duck is in the house (true story!). He’ll also sing along with you in the car and bark to remind you that he needs some more scritches if you stop petting him too early. He’s a delightfully charming, spunky guy who will give you entertainment for hours.
Tucker loves going out and about with his foster parents wherever they go, especially to the mall where he can meet lots of people who will fall in love with him! He does well on the leash when there are few other dogs around and is very well behaved in stores and on patios. Tucker can be reactive when he sees other dogs and isn’t redirected quickly. Through lots of training and positive reinforcement, Tucker has been working very diligently with his fosters on overcoming this behavior. But his new adopter will have to commit to continuing this training, so he doesn’t regress. Likewise, even though Tucker LOVES wrestling and playing with other dogs, he can sometimes become overstimulated at the dog park where his herding instincts take over and he can agitate the other dogs with his (well-intentioned) nipping. Because of this, Tucker would do best in a home with a backyard where he can run off his energy playing fetch, tossing around toys, or wrestling with another playful pup in the yard.
Tucker is house trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands. He is also working on “shake” and “rollover.” He loves children and has done great with his fosters’ young nephews that have come to visit. Because of his active mind, he does best in a crate or enclosed in a small area when no one is home. His current foster parents work a hybrid schedule, and he does well being crated for 8 hours a few times a week while they’re at work, as long as he gets plenty of play time when they get home. At night, Tucker sleeps uncrated in the bed with his foster parents without incident. He loves laying his head on their pillow and snuggling up just like a human would.
At the end of the day, he is just a classic young Aussie who needs to be both physically and mentally exercised each day. If you’re able to meet his needs, you’ll be rewarded with the most snuggly, sweet, lovable boy.
Tucker is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and on monthly Heartworm prevention.
