Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

Meet April! She is a sweet, affectionate 4-year-old Aussie weighing 44 pounds, and she is exactly the kind of dog who will quietly steal your heart. This July birthday girl just celebrated her 4th bday with us! April came to us when her family experienced changes in their home and knew they could no longer provide the active lifestyle and socialization she deserved. Now she is ready for a family of her own!
At home, April is wonderfully well-behaved. She is fully housebroken, can be trusted loose in the house while her foster family is at work or running errands, and has not touched a single thing she shouldn’t. She has not shown any resource guarding around food or toys either. She is calm, settled, and easy going.
April does bark when someone comes through the door and occasionally throws in a howl for good measure, but she settles down immediately once she realizes it’s just someone she loves coming home. She knows several commands and responds well to correction. She walks well on leash with just a little pulling, which she is actively working on with her foster family. Busy public settings are still something she is building confidence in, so an adopter who is patient and willing to take new experiences at her pace will set her up for success.
She has done great with her family’s resident dog and would likely do well in a home with or without a canine companion. She was previously reported to be good with cats, though she has not been around them recently. She has done well with children and is gentle and calm around them.
April is ready to be someone’s devoted companion. She has so much love to give and just needs a family willing to receive it.
April is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. She is being fostered in the Dallas area and her adopter will need to travel to meet her within seven days of approval. She is available for adoption within Texas and Oklahoma only. Her adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application. If you already have an application on file, you can contact us to let us know you’re interested in April.
