Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

GIVE A GIFT
BECOME A FOSTER
Fostering is the hands-on approach to supporting rescue efforts! If you have room in your home and extra love for an Aussie in need, please consider joining our foster program. No special training required, but dog experience (or current dog ownership) is great! If you're willing and able, we need you!
HELP WITH TRANSPORT
We need volunteers along our major routes (Austin, Waco, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio areas) to help with Freedom Rides. If you are unable to foster, this is a great way to donate your time to help the pups! Transport times are usually flexible with your schedule and how far you are comfortable driving.

LSAR rescues Aussies from a variety of situations. Dogs are brought into our rescue from animal shelters, humane organizations, found as strays, or may be directly surrendered to us by owners who are no longer willing or able to care for them. Rescuing and caring for each pet can be costly depending on the situation and the pet's condition. Basic and sometimes extraordinary expenses are incurred to ensure their safety, health and comfort.
In addition to expenses like shelter fees, supplies, and transport, veterinary care is our most substantial expense. When a pet is rescued, our first order of business is to determine their level of health and address any issues, concerns or needs with a veterinarian. All rescued Aussies are provided any necessary veterinary care to give them the best possible quality of life, including:
-
routine vaccinations
-
spay/neuter procedures
-
heartworm testing (and treatment)
-
microchipping
Beyond the basics, each Aussie's individual needs may vary from kennel cough, injuries, infections, etc. Treatment, medication, corrective procedures and surgeries can be costly, so we work with clinics and veterinary hospitals to ensure the best course of action and negotiate to obtain the best possible pricing.
