Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

BART
Stats: 8 years old, male
Location: Austin, TX
Intake: August 2026
Adoption Fee: $200
Social: #Bart260
Meet Bart! He is a friendly, affectionate 8½-year-old standard Aussie weighing 52 pounds, with a whole lot of personality and a very clear sense of his priorities: sticks, swims, and his people, in no particular order.
Bart has reached that wonderful stage of life where he still enjoys daily adventures but also knows how to settle in and simply enjoy being with his family. He is just as happy joining you on a walk or a car ride as he is lounging beside you afterward. His favorite activity is whatever you are doing.
At home Bart is a complete gentleman. He is housebroken, crate trained, and can be fully trusted loose in the house when his foster family is away. He knows sit, paw, down, wait, and drop it, and greets his people at the door with a full welcome home dance. He is also a true velcro dog who has mastered the art of requesting attention with a well-timed nose nudge and unwavering eye contact.
On leash Bart walks nicely and enjoys getting out for daily adventures. He can even join you for a jog, though he reserves the right to stop and investigate an interesting scent along the way. Swimming is one of his favorite things, especially when a stick is involved. Speaking of sticks, Bart considers it his personal mission to inspect, collect, and occasionally carry every one he finds. It is not a problem. It is a calling.
Bart is friendly with everyone he meets and greets visitors as though they have been friends for years. He has done well with every person and dog in his foster home and neighborhood. He has previously not done well with cats.
Bart would thrive in a home where he can be included as a true member of the family, go on daily adventures, and end every evening close to his people.
Bart is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. Bart does require a prescription food for a sensitive stomach which costs about $60 a month. He is being fostered in the Austin area and his adopter will need to travel to meet him within seven days of approval. He is available for adoption within Texas and Oklahoma only. His adoption fee is $200 and you can complete an adoption application online at LoneStarAussieRescue.org/adopt. If you already have an application on file, send us a PM or email letting us know you're interested in Bart.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only. All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention — NO EXCEPTIONS!
