Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

CHEWIE
Stats: 5 years old, male
Location: TX
Intake: 4/19/2025
Adoption Fee: TBD
Social: #Chewie302
Welcome back to Chewie (formerly puppy Archie)! He originally came to us as a stray in 2020 and was adopted in 2021. Sadly, his family had some life changes that included a baby and not enough time to keep Chewie's life enriched, which was manifesting itself in bad behaviors. We're happy to welcome him back!
Chewie has been blind since birth, but the thing that really makes him special is that if you weren't told (or didn't read his special made harness) he is blind, you'd never know it! He was well trained and loves (and needs!) daily activities like going on walks, playing fetch, mental enrichment, and learning new skills. He's a friendly, happy boy who also enjoys playing with other dogs!
Unfortunately, just as we were making arrangements for him to join us again, one of his eyes turned up blood red. The normal vet ruled out the things they could and he was referred to an ophthalmologist. We had an appt. for him this week and they feel that possibly it's trauma (i.e. having run into something) and have put him on some drops to help it heal.
We look forward to getting to know Chewie again as an adult and helping him find that perfect forever family in the future! Welcome back Chewie!
