Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

Chloe is a 44 lb. medium energy, standard Aussie who joined us on her 2nd birthday. She is the ultimate snuggle bug and always wants to be near her foster mom and is ready for all the fun outings with her family. Personal space is a foreign concept to Chloe. When she seeks out pats and scratches, she will paw at you if you dare to stop before she has gotten her fill. If she isn’t smushed next to or on top of her foster mom, you can find Chloe perched on the highest point on the couch where she can keep a watchful eye on all the happenings around the house.
She loves any and every dog she has ever met, regardless of the setting. Chloe would do well in a house with another playful dog or with owners who can frequently take her to parks or playdates with other dog friends. She loves her squeaky toys and is happy to share them with her foster brothers as well. She does not do well with kitties or chickens, but lived with kiddos in her original home and was said to be good with them. She has not been in a home with kids while in our care.
When Chloe first arrived at her foster home, she was hesitant with male visitors and would shy away and bark, but now that she has settled in, she welcomes company with friendly barks and promptly seeks out attention for pats. She does still bark at times when she hears a strange noise. Continued exposure to new people, places, and things is a must for her!
Chloe is perfectly behaved when left uncrated overnight and when her foster mom has left her at home during the day. She is fully housebroken and hasn’t exhibited destructive behavior. However, she has been known to counter surf and can’t be trusted with accessible food when left unattended. She lives for her treats and is very food motivated but is working on taking them gently. Chloe is very intelligent and so far, knows how to sit, shake, and her recall is great, although she does still get distracted at times.
She loves her walks and is working on perfecting her leash manners, especially when she sees small animals and gets a little too excited to try and chase. Chloe loves car rides and She would love to join her family on frequent outings and be by your side as much as possible!
Chloe is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all core vaccines, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention. She is being fostered in Houston and is available to adopt in Texas and some areas of Oklahoma only. If chosen, you must be able to travel to Houston within 7 days of application approval. If you have an application on file with us already and would like to be considered for Chloe, please contact us!
