Meet Doc! He is a gentle, easygoing 3- to 4-year-old standard Aussie weighing about 50 pounds, with a whole lot of personality tucked into a very calm exterior. Doc was found roaming the streets of Lubbock during a thunderstorm, and we are so glad he was because this sweet boy deserves every bit of the good life ahead of him.

Doc is a certified couch potato who loves cuddles, ear scratches, and burrowing into your arms whenever you'll let him. He is happiest simply being near his person, whether that's relaxing on the couch, following you around the house, or keeping you company while you work outside. He even has a signature move: gently placing his paw on your arm while you scratch his ears. It will absolutely melt your heart.

He does like his routine and can be cautious with new things, but once he works through a new challenge, he settles right in. He is eager to please and adjusts well with a little time and patience. He has a sassy side too, and if he is not feeling a command, he may give a little bark of protest, but he always comes around. Doc already knows his name, sit, and off, and is working on wait, down, shake, and kennel manners. He is treat-motivated and goes absolutely wild for a squeaky toy or a ball, though he would much rather carry them around proudly than actually play fetch.

At home, Doc can be trusted in the home. He has had zero accidents and has never torn anything up, even overnight and for a few hours alone. He is still figuring out that shoes are not toys, but he only carries them around rather than chewing them. He is not yet fully comfortable in his kennel but will tolerate it while his fosters run errands or are at work.

Doc has done beautifully with his three foster sisters and brother, and has particularly bonded with his calm, cuddly 8-year-old foster brother, a fellow couch potato after his own heart. He does best with calmer canine companions and is slowly warming up to more rambunctious playmates over time. He has been tested with a cat and is completely respectful of them. He has not been tested around children.

On leash, Doc is gentle and easy. He loves to sniff and take in his surroundings, so he does best with an adopter who is patient and willing to let him explore the world at his own pace. He also rides well in the car.

Doc came to us with uncertainty behind him, and what he needs now is simple: consistency, patience, and someone who will keep broadening his horizons and building his confidence. He would love a calm canine companion but could also thrive as an only dog who gets all the ear scratches for himself.

Doc is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention.

Doc is being fostered in Lubbock and will require his adopter to travel to meet him within 7 days. He is available for adoption within Texas and Oklahoma only. His adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application. If you already have an application on file, contact us to let us know you're interested in Doc.

Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only. All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention — NO EXCEPTIONS!
