Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

Meet Ford! He’s a 4-5 year old low to medium energy, 50lb. standard Aussie. Joining the rescue from Louisiana, this handsome gentleman was part of LSAR’s NOLA 7 where he never really had the opportunity to properly socialize or be exposed to new people and places. Since settling in his foster home, he’s been opening up little by little and doing wonderfully.
He’s a goofy guy who has mastered that side tongue smile and will melt your heart with his cuddly and velcro personality. When meeting new people inside the home, he can be unsure of them at first. Give him a little time, and he will be right there greeting booty first for some scratches. He’s also gotten along with his foster sister and other dogs and cats. He’s not one to play much with other dogs and hasn’t had any issues with sharing toys or food.
Ford is a pretty go-with-the-flow guy when it comes to his activity level. He LOVES his tennis ball and a good game of fetch, and he gets excited when he sees the leash come out for a walk. He’s done great with his leash training, despite not having had much experience previously. He’s also been gaining confidence on his walks, especially when passing new people or when fast moving cars go by. When going for car rides, he does great riding in the car! Ford is also perfectly happy to lounge around the house with you, especially with the Texas heat limiting outdoor adventures. You can find him relaxing right by your side on the couch, curled up on the bed for a good nap or stretched out in his big sploot on the rug.
Inside the house, he’s transitioned from crate training to having free roam of the house when left alone. He typically just takes a nap, waiting until his foster mom comes homes, and greets her with all the excitement. And maybe a little too much excitement at times — he’s currently working on keeping those four big adorable paws on the ground instead of jumping to say hello.
Ford is an absolute love, and we know his best chapter is ahead. He’s ready to continue experiencing all of life’s adventures, alongside his humans he loves the most. He has not been tested with children and likely wouldn’t enjoy being around rambunctious kids.
Ford is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention.
Ford is being fostered in Dallas and will require the adopter to travel to meet him within 7 days of approval. His adoption fee is $275, and you can complete an adoption application online at LoneStarAussieRescue.org/adopt.
