Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

Meet Mac, an 8 month old standard Aussie male, who weighs 35 lbs currently. He is the definition of a velcro Aussie, following his people from room to room whenever they get up, but he will settle in comfortably and cuddle with those he trusts. He loves big pets on his head and neck, often stretching up to ask for them. He is a huge love bug!
Mac plays well with his foster brother and has made a lot of progress on doggie manners. He is very nervous meeting new dogs and can take time to warm up to them. After a couple days, he loves to wrestle and becomes best friends. Mac has met a cat, but didn’t show much interest and was quite calm.
While he doesn’t show much interest in toys other than chew toys, he loves to wrestle and play chase with other dogs. He would do well with a confident dog in the home to be his playmate and continued socialization.
Mac is very food motivated and has learned a lot quickly. He does well with sit, down, and recall. Mac is also house trained and crate trained. He rides well in the car, and is always ready to get in and go on an adventure!
Mac has pretty severe leash reactivity with both people and other dogs. In addition, he can be protective of “his” people. It is all fear based and comes from a lack of confidence. He has never tried to bite another dog or human, he just barks and occasionally growls. His foster parents have been working with him on this for several months and are now working with a professional trainer. He has made progress with meeting new people in small groups and passing people on walks. He currently completes daily confidence exercises and lessons, which will be required to continue and are paid for by the rescue.
Mac is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention. He will be adopted out on a neuter contract, to be neutered once he is farther along in training.
Mac is being fostered in Dallas and will require the adopter to travel to meet him within 7 days of approval. His adoption fee is $325 and you can complete an adoption application. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us saying you are interested in Mac.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
