Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

MAYA

Say hello to Maya! She is a 6–7 year-old standard Aussie weighing 45 lbs. She is one of the seven pups who joined LSAR as part of the NOLA 7 rescue from Louisiana. Maya is a low to medium energy dog with a very sweet disposition.
Maya is being fostered in a home with 3 other Aussies. She has become a welcome part of the pack and has learned to adjust her play to their energy level. Maya enjoys being around other dogs, and she’s done great while meeting other dogs on walks or in public spaces.
Maya can be a little shy when meeting a new person but generally has her head in their lap before long. She has the most beautiful eyes and a soulful stare that she is not afraid to use for extra treats or head rubs.
Maya hasn’t had a lot of training, but she loves to work (especially for treats). She has been working sit, stay, recall and recently started a beginner agility class. She had a great time and was making friends with the dogs and handlers by the end of the first class. Maya is a great companion and travels well in a car. She is very much a Velcro dog and is happy to go anywhere as long as she gets to go with her people. She is a little nervous around young kids, but would be fine in a home with school-age kids. She is good with cats and typically ignores them. She has been exposed to deer, horses, goats, and other dogs on walks without incident.
Maya is crate trained and sleeps in one at night. She is okay roaming the house or going into her crate when home alone. Maya is ready to do whatever the other dogs are doing. She is happy to get on the bed or couch with you but will stay on the floor if you ask her to.
Maya is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention. Maya is being fostered in Austin and will require the adopter to travel to meet her within 7 days of approval. Her adoption fee is $275, and you can complete an adoption application. Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only, and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
