MOOSE
Stats: 4 years old, male

Location: Austin, TX

Intake: November 2025

Adoption Fee: $275

Social: #Moose533

Requirements:

  • No children under 12

  • Confident playmate in the home

Moose is a 4-year-old standard Aussie who weighs 42 lbs. He is a very sweet, loyal boy who truly just wants to please his people. He can be a little timid with new people (men in particular), and is gaining confidence every day. His favorite thing lately has been to rest his little chin on your leg for pets.

Moose is a medium energy dog who adapts well to both active or laid-back days. He gets along well with most dogs, but he doesn’t like it when some dogs bark at him. While he doesn’t usually initiate play, he can be won over by a confident pup. Given a yard or large space, he loves to run and play chase — don’t blink or you’ll miss him!

Moose is great on leash, walking perfectly tucked behind your leg, and gets very excited when it’s time for a walk! He enjoys fetch, is learning frisbee, and has just started agility, which has been great for building his confidence.

Moose is very smart and learns new skills quickly. While he enjoys treats, what really motivates him is praise and affection. He has great recall and has been working on ‘wait’, ‘leave it’, ‘stay’, though he’ll need continued practice in high-distraction environments.

He is generally a quiet dog and doesn’t bark at the door, though he may vocalize when overexcited or nervous. He’s shown only very mild reactivity when another dog barks first and may gently “correct” his foster sibling when she’s reactive, though he’s never been rude or aggressive. Moose will also show off his dancing skills when seeking attention, especially with new people, by throwing his wiggle butt around from side to side!

Toys seem new to Moose, and he’s becoming more interested in them! He recently mastered de-stuffing his hedgehog toy. He shares toys and treats well, with only mild protectiveness over a favorite item, which is easily redirected. He will need continued praise when he chooses to nicely share! He enjoys tug with another dog and mental enrichment games like “find it”.

Moose is crate trained and house-trained. He is not much of a chewer and has never destroyed anything in the home; the only exception has been anxious chewing his bed when left alone in his crate. His biggest challenge is anxiety when his people leave, and he will require a patient home willing to continue building his confidence that people always come back.

Moose is tolerant of baths and brushing (his coat is easy by aussie standards), but nail trimming will need some work. He does well with the vacuum, recovers quickly from sudden noises, and does great in the car. He isn’t a fan of being picked up or forced into belly rubs.

Moose is a sensitive soul and needs his people to lead with positive affirmation and love. He builds deep bonds with his people and would benefit from a home that will continue to help him practice spending time with new humans and learning independence in a supportive way. He will require a home with no children due to his timid nature and has not been tested with cats.

Moose is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on monthly Heartworm prevention.

Moose is being fostered in Austin and will require the adopter to travel to meet him within 7 days of approval. His adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us saying you are interested in Moose.

Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
