Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

OAKLEY
Stats: 3 years old, male
Location: Austin, TX
Intake: June 2026
Adoption Fee: $275
Social: #Oakley558
Requirement:
-
Dock diving experienced owner
Oakley is a handsome three year old, medium energy, 41 lb standard red merle Australian Shepherd who truly is the complete package—loving, playful, athletic, and well trained.
He’s an excellent house guest: fully housebroken, comfortable being left alone when his foster parents leave, and he gets along great with his two foster sisters. When it’s time for bed, Oakley makes sure he finds his spot near a pillow. No nighttime crating for this people-oriented boy.
Aussies need a job, and Oakley’s job is keeping an eye (and ear!) on his surroundings. If he hears a noise or spots something outside, he’s quick to alert you with his BIG bark. He will redirect, but he would do best in a home that appreciates a watchful, vocal guardian.
Oakley lives for tennis balls and anything involving water. Turn on the hose and he springs into action—jumping, spinning, and celebrating every splash with pure joy. Water is his happy place! He is friendly with other dogs, but prefers playing with tennis balls and people. When meeting new people, Oakley does well! He’s even gone to the office with his foster dad and enjoyed getting pets from everyone there.
Oakley is especially enthusiastic about dock diving and can soar an impressive 20 feet. When he’s at the dock, all he wants to do is jump again and again. No dock? No problem—he’s perfectly happy splashing around in a pool or going for a swim. For him to be a happy dog, dock diving and swimming MUST be a central part of his future.
He’s been building up his endurance in warmer weather, but walks are not his favorite activity right now. With cooler temperatures and time, he may grow into a great hiking companion—but he’s not the type of dog who will want to be your running partner.
Oakley rides well in the car, though he does pant a bit. With more outings and experience, he’s likely to relax as he learns that fun adventures—like swimming and dock diving—await at the other end of the ride.
If you are looking for a sweet, waterloving, and funspirited companion, Oakley could be your perfect match!
Oakley is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, Heartworm negative and on monthly Heartworm prevention. He has not been tested with cats.
Oakley is being fostered in Austin, and will require the adopter to travel to him. His adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us saying you are interested in Oakley.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
