Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

This sweet senior girl got her freedom ride before her time ran out at another smaller town shelter. Her name is Olivia and she’s estimated to be 11 years old. She’s one of our rare honorees who isn’t an Aussie, but tugs on those heart strings because she reminds us of one of our personal dogs who left a huge impression on our life. She was found wandering in a neighborhood, and after a couple of days, the ACO was called to pick her up. She then sat at the shelter for a few weeks, and no one came to reclaim her. She was stressed; she was getting sick; she needed out, as space is a premium as dogs keep coming in. No one else rescued her. No one else adopted her. We said we would help. She deserved to get out and enjoy a soft bed for her golden years. Unfortunately, the stress and sickness from the shelter got to her, so her eyes became gunky and she developed an upper respiratory infection. The shelter was good enough to test her for Heartworms, and surprise, surprise, she tested positive. She was seen by our vet to get started on antibiotics and meds for her eyes. After sleeping almost nonstop since we got her, she’s finally perking up a bit! She absolutely loves dog beds! We look forward to seeing her settle in and come out of her shell even more and letting her know she is loved and never has to worry about being cared for again! Welcome to LSAR Olivia – we’ve got you!
