Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

OZZIE
Stats: 2 years old, male

Ozzie is an estimated 2-year-old, 46-pound lover boy who is packed full of typical young Aussie energy, well balanced with plenty of snuggle sessions once his physical needs are met.
He was found as a stray roaming the country. He was brought into a local community shelter where no one stepped forward to claim him. It is clear that he had some positive human interaction previously because he LOVES attention from anyone and everyone he meets. He is the biggest cuddle bug and loves being snuggled up in bed or on the couch with his humans.
When he is not getting attention, he sets his sights elsewhere whether that be fetch, playing with his foster brother, chewing on a bone, throwing toys in the air to catch them himself, figuring out the “puzzles” his foster mom makes, or playing outside with a jolly ball. He is a true Aussie and needs lots of mental enrichment and physical activity throughout the day.
Ozzie is super agile and athletic and does well keeping up on runs with his foster mom or long walks around the park. He would be a great candidate for agility training or a wonderful hiking companion as well.
Ozzie has been living with 2 cats and 2 dogs in his foster home and gets along with everybody. Ozzie has had several playdates with children and seems to LOVE them as well.
When Ozzie first joined us, it was very evident that he did not know any commands. But he is very eager to please and picks up on things quickly. So far he has learned sit, stay, place, kennel, and has gotten good with leash manners. He still gets a bit overexcited when he sees other dogs but is getting really good at leaving distractions and turning his focus back to his people. He is now house trained and will whine at the door when he needs to go outside. He is also crate trained - at first he can be hesitant but will run in when there’s treats involved. He has been crated while no one is home to keep him out of trouble.
Ozzie would be such an amazing pup for a family out there ready for fun, silly adventures with a loving companion. Those bright eyes know nothing but joy and adoration for whoever he meets, and he is so ready to go home to find HIS people.
Ozzie is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all core vaccines, and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He is being fostered in Waco and is available to adopt in Texas and some areas of Oklahoma only. If chosen, you must be able to travel to Waco within 7 days of application approval.
