Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.
FOSTER PROGRAM
ROWDY
Stats: 12 years old, male
Location: Dallas, TX
Intake: 02/01/2024
Adoption Fee: $150
Looking for endless devotion and a willing partner to hang with you in all things? Meet Rowdy! He’s an almost 12-year-old, low energy, big standard boy, weighing 63 lbs. He has the sweetest happy face and loves following his person throughout the house or getting attention from anyone he meets. He enjoys strolling around the yard and will have a few good romps if he sees something that catches his interest! He’s great with everyone he’s met (people and dogs), and lives with a cat currently. He gets extremely excited about going for a ride. He is still anxious while in the vehicle but has improved so much. He LOVES going for walks. He has little spurts of wanting to play with his siblings but is generally happy co-existing with any calmer dogs in the home.
Health-wise, his senior bloodwork and labs checked out well. Unfortunately, he did come to us with Heartworms, which we chose to treat via the more conservative “slow-kill” method due to his age and initial anxiety. He will go home with Heartworm prevention to finish his treatment. He also has some significant arthritis in all his leg joints (front and back legs, but hips are ok) from prior injuries and age. He’s now on daily joint supplements and pain/anti-inflammatory medication and gets a monthly injection to help. His current medications and supplements cost just under $100/month. He is housebroken and trustworthy left alone at home uncrated.
Rowdy is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all core vaccines, and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. He is being fostered in the Dallas area and is available to adopt in Texas and some areas of Oklahoma only. If chosen, you must be able to travel to Dallas within 7 days of application approval. If you have an application on file with us already and would like to be considered for Rowdy, please contact us!
