Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

RUSTY
Stats: 2-3 years old, male
Location: TX
Intake: 02/2026
Adoption Fee: $275
Social: #Rusty542
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - RUSTY
Meet Rusty! This easy-going and affectionate boy was found as a stray and is believed to be 2-3 years old. At 40 pounds, this beautiful standard male has a perfect medium energy level: always up for some fun, but just as happy to relax by your side. From the moment you meet him, Rusty will melt your heart with his sweet and cuddly demeanor.
Rusty loves a good walk and will sit patiently by the door the moment he spots the leash. He walks nicely on a leash and has responded well to training. He's growing more confident with each walk and responding well to cues and treats when you need his attention. He also rides well in the car, making it easy to take him out on lots of adventures.
Rusty enjoys play sessions with his foster sister and is still discovering toys, with stuffed ones being his favorite so far. At home, he’s your classic velcro aussie, happily following you from room to room and settling nearby just to keep you company. Be warned: if you’ve been gone a little too long, you’ll be greeted with his signature “lick attacks” and enthusiastic snuggles. He really loves his people and being snuggled up next to you.
Rusty has adapted well to his foster home and is fully crate-trained. He does well when left alone, quietly napping in his crate until you return. While he hasn’t had much free-roam time when left alone, he does sleep uncrated at night and could likely adjust to more freedom with time. He hasn’t shown any destructive behaviors, though he has been known to counter surf, so this will be something his future adopter will want to be aware of.
When it comes to meeting new people and dogs, Rusty is a social butterfly. He’s done wonderfully with other dogs and has even met the neighborhood kids, soaking up pets and happily handing out kisses in return.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will stick by your side through every adventure (and every cozy night in), Rusty just might be your perfect match!
Rusty is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. He has not been tested with cats. He is available for adoption to homes within Texas
only, and, in some cases, Oklahoma.
Rusty is being fostered in Dallas and will require the adopter to travel to him. His adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application online at LoneStarAussieRescue.org/adopt. If you already have an application on file with us, you can send us a PM or email saying you are interested in Rusty.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
