Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

Snow is a fun-loving, solid medium energy 7-year-old female Aussie who weighs 39 lbs. and is ready for a home with lots of outside adventures, affection, and a ton of fetch! She is an exceptional dog that wants to please and is happy being involved in any activity with her person.
Snow is very athletic and her favorite activities are playing fetch and a good run in a dog park or safely enclosed area. She would probably be an excellent hiking buddy or great running companion for someone who does that regularly. She gets very excited when she sees her leash come out because that means she’s about to have fun outside! She enjoys walking on a leash but prefers to run or chase her ball. She does well on a leash and follows the command to “wait” before crossing a street. She does well on car rides and is happy to go all the time. She gets a little anxious walking in public shopping areas with loud noises but is happy to stick close to your side.
Snow gets along with all the new dogs she meets, whether on a leash or off-leash in a local dog park. She is known to be a herder at the dog park, so would probably do well in small playdates as well. Her play with other dogs is generally short-lived as she hasn’t found the perfect pal. She prefers looking for squirrels and following scents.
While she is active, Snow is also very happy being a snuggle bug. She loves to cuddle anytime and will demand to be pet with a nudge of her nose. She likes to be with her people and is a velcro sidekick. She follows her person from room to room and happily lays by your side. While inside, she enjoys watching squirrels at one of two window perches, alternating between the two to get a better view.
Snow has been well trained and follows numerous verbal commands. She can sit, stay, shake, lay down, wait, drop it, go to bed, and has excellent recall with a whistle or call of her name. She follows the command “drop it” when playing with a ball or if she picks something up while on a walk. She is also trained to sit and wait before giving her the “ok” to eat her food.
Snow is crate and housetrained and has been left alone at home without incident. She patiently waits by the door for our return and gives us a happy welcome. Before bedtime she enjoys a snuggle on the bed with us, then on command “go to bed” promptly jumps off the bed and into her crate for the night.
Snow will bark at noises within the house or when the doorbell rings but settles down quickly. She does not react to barking dogs behind a fence and happily greets all dogs and people in the park or at our home. She likes attention from anyone, but especially from her foster family, though is not suited for a home with children.
Snow’s coat was shaved prior to joining us, but it has been growing in nicely and is very soft. It is expected to be normal Aussie length for the breed standard and should NOT be shaved or trimmed again. She is excellent in the bathtub and has zoomie time after she is dried.
Snow is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all core vaccines, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention. She is being fostered in the Austin area and is available to adopt in Texas and some areas of Oklahoma only. If chosen, you must be able to travel to Austin within 7 days of application approval.
