Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

SOPHIE
Stats: 1.5 years old, female
Location: Dallas, TX
Intake: May 2026
Adoption Fee: $275
Social: #Sophie552
Meet Sophie! She is a gentle, loving 1½-year-old Mini Aussie weighing 29 pounds, with a calm, easygoing spirit and belly rubs as her official love language. Sophie came to us from a high-kill shelter in Kerrville. Having been a mama far too young, Sophie is finally getting the chance to be a puppy herself. She is a pure joy to be around.
Sophie is timid at first and takes a little time to build trust, but once she does, her sweet and affectionate nature truly shines. She is smart and treat-motivated. This girl learns quickly! She already knows her name and is working on sit, off, down, and practicing recall. With a patient, loving family to guide her, she will continue thriving.
At home, Sophie is a velcro dog who loves to be wherever you are, quietly joining in on laundry, chores, and whatever you've got going on. She sleeps beautifully through the night in her dog bed and is housebroken — she'll even give a gentle little bark to let you know she needs to go out. She is still working on chewing, so she should be crated when unsupervised. She responds really well to redirection and will happily swap a shoe for a belly rub without any fuss.
On leash, Sophie is calm and easy. She has visited pet stores, and everyone who has met her has absolutely adored her. She gets along well with other dogs and has loved playing with her foster siblings. She has not yet been tested with cats. Sophie would do wonderfully with a loving adopter who can continue to nurture her confidence. She'd love a canine companion to play with, but can also thrive as an only dog with regular playdates.
Sophie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. She is being fostered in the Dallas area, and her adopter will need to travel to meet her. Sophie is available for adoption within Texas and Oklahoma only. Her adoption fee is $275. You can complete an adoption application. If you already have an application on file, contact us letting us know you're interested in Sophie.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only. All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention — NO EXCEPTIONS!
