Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

SUMMIT
Stats: 4 years old, female
Location: Dallas, TX
Intake: May 2026
Adoption Fee: $275
Social: #Summit553
Meet Summit! She is a friendly, affectionate 4-year-old medium energy Aussie currently weighing 52 pounds and working toward her goal weight of 45 pounds. Now she is ready for a family of her own!
Summit would do best in an active home that gets outside daily and can make frisbee, fetch, and adventure a regular part of her routine. She needs someone committed to helping her shed a few pounds and keep them off, so a family who loves to move will be her perfect match in more ways than one.
Summit is a total cuddle bug who loves everyone she meets. Strangers, friends, kids, she does not discriminate. She will happily roll onto her back for belly rubs, soak up all the attention she can get, and give you plenty of kisses in return. Her favorite things include butt scratches, belly rubs, car rides, fetch, and frisbee. She is calm, quiet, eager to please, and adapts easily to whatever her family needs.
At home Summit is wonderfully well-behaved. She is fully housebroken and has shown no separation anxiety. She is happy to cuddle in bed if that is what you want, but if you tell her to go to her own bed she will do so without complaint. She does resource guard her food bowl so she should be fed separately from other pets, but her foster family is actively working on building better habits around mealtime and she is not aggressive about it. She can be sensitive to sudden loud sounds but finds a quiet spot to settle herself and bounces back quickly with a little reassurance that everything is okay.
Summit loves being outside and is a pleasure to walk, but her absolute favorite thing in the world is a good game of frisbee. She needs someone committed to getting outside every day and keeping her active. She does great in a playgroup and gets along well with other dogs, though she can pick up energy from a housemate and may bark if they do. She corrects easily and calms right down. She has one weakness on the leash: if she spots a bunny, all bets are off. She is leash reactive to small critters but redirects well with a treat. She has done well with children and is gentle and calm around them. She has not yet been tested with cats.
She knows sit, down, recall, and go to bed, and is highly food motivated, which will make continued training easy and fun.If you are looking for a calm, affectionate, well-mannered companion who loves everyone and just wants to be loved back, Summit may be your perfect match.
Summit is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly prevention. She is being fostered in the Dallas area and her adopter will need to travel to meet her within seven days of approval. She is available for adoption within Texas and Oklahoma only. Her adoption fee is $275 and you can complete an adoption application online at LoneStarAussieRescue.org/adopt. If you already have an application on file, send us a PM or email letting us know you’re interested in Summit.
Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only. All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention — NO EXCEPTIONS!
