Fosters are what make our organization go, go, go! The more fosters we have, the more pups we can welcome into safe, loving environments before they are ready to be adopted into permanent, forever homes.
The LSAR Foster Program is simple: We supply the pet, just add food, shelter and love! We will take care of all approved veterinary costs (including medications) for your LSAR foster pet. We just ask you treat them like one of your own; give them food/water, a soft, safe place to lay their head, and lots of love.
You do not have to be a dog whisperer to apply! No degree or special training is required. But make no mistake, fosters are indeed very special people! Fosters must be loving, patient, giving and dedicated. If this sounds like you, we'd be delighted to have you on our team!
Please note: A complete (and approved) application, as well as a home visit are required to join the LSAR Foster Program. We are currently "recruiting" fosters within our service area only. Please apply to foster if you currently reside within Texas or Oklahoma.

ZARA

Zara is a 3-4 year old, low-energy, 55 lb. standard Aussie. She is a very sweet and calm soul that had a very rough life until now. She was part of our NOLA 7 and was never exposed to new people or the outside world. It took her a while to start coming out of her shell, but she is becoming more comfortable every day.
Zara gets along with all other dogs and is good with cats. She will wrestle or play a fun game of chase around the yard for about 10 min and then she is good for the day. While she isn’t super into playing, she does look to other dogs for confidence and will require an outgoing dog in the home to continue her socialization.
She loves to collect toys and chew on bones. She will bring toy after toy into her crate until she has a whole collection. She will also play a little fetch but tires out quickly.
She is still a timid girl that will require a patient adopter, but she is getting more and more comfortable with people every day. She will follow you around the house and will cuddle up next to you on the couch or the bed. Zara gets very excited when her people come home and will sometimes jump up for a hug. She gives delicate kisses and will just stick her face right up next to yours and look at you with the sweetest puppy dog eyes.
She is learning basic commands, is house-trained, and crate-trained, but can be trusted out in the house. She rides well in the car, is great in public, and on leash. She gets nervous in places like stores or the vet’s office and will look to her handler for comfort.
She has not been tested with children and likely wouldn’t enjoy being around rambunctious kids.
Zara is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and on monthly Heartworm and flea prevention.
Zara is being fostered in Dallas and will require the adopter to travel to meet her within 7 days of approval. Please note: All our dogs are adopted as inside pets and family members only, and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention - NO EXCEPTIONS!
